Memory Tree

A Christmas tree is a memorial that echoes back our traditions. Each layer of ornaments reveals the sentiment of family, friends, and times past: ornaments hand-sewn by my grandmothers, the Irish China that signifies my heritage, a train set purchased for my brother the year he was born, ornaments we hand-glued in elementary school. The years when colored lights were popular. The years when white lights were popular. These ornaments culminate into a decorative expression about the identity of my family.

Our tradition of tree trimming is even more special than the ornaments themselves. Christmas Even I travel back down to my parent's house. After dinner we decorate the tree, together, as a family. This is the event of family- the gathering, the celebration. Outside the religious foundations, this is the meaning of the Christmas holiday.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU! And may you enjoy friends and family this time of year.
