Science of Sleep
I just saw one of the most imaginative movies in quite a while- "The Science of Sleep". The plot plays on that tried and true narrative of the social inept attempting to forge and maintain a love interest. Where surrealism and dreams are an escapist ploy to evade perceptions of an unfriendly world.
The movie easily falls in line with Garden State, Punch Drunk Love, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Brazil, Felini’s 8 1/2, etc. (As a side note, these are among my favorite movies).
Strong use of imagery to portray imagination and dreams sets this movie apart. The director takes full advantage of the visual elements to propel the narrative. I was drawn into the movie. Just watch the trailer- a pure work of cinematography.
A recomendation for those that love indie / foreign films, use of imagery / visual narrative, and a work open to interpretation. Enjoy the trailer!

Joe,
Human Nature, an earlier film by Gondry, is also visually inventive. The critics didn't like it so much, but I did. Check it out if you haven't seen it!
