Atlanta Airline Adventure I

It’s enough to make the mind stretch for comprehension- that 9:00 AM weekday call from your mother.
Hung over.
Head hung over a bowl of Fruit Loops.
Head hung over a bowl of Fruit Loops, with a crazy ringtone booming in the speaker of the mobile.
“Hi mom, what’s up?”
“Turn on the news.” Single declarative.
“What?”
“Turn on the news. A terrorist threat plot has been thwarted.”
Sure enough, it’s the media buzz on all the local and news stations. A CNN fixture for the day. New York times headline. Flip the channel, turn the page. It’s everywhere. Two dozen terrorists arrested in England for plotting to blow up a plane. I’m watching the headlines as my mother narrates the latest event. All the newscasters casually mention “the largest terrorist plot since 9/11.”
Mute. The TV replays that same reel of the cops searching through the terrorists home over, and over, and over again. Scenes from airports all around the country. It all seems so far away, but this will be my reality in a few hours time.
“It looks like airports are backed by the new security procedures. I thought you should know. This means you’ll need to get to the airport a little early.”
“Thanks mom.”
There I am, 9:00 in the morning, head hung over a bowl of fruit loops, fixated on the news report, mind stretching for comprehension.
"Today will be a great day," my internal voice mutters sarcastically. "Today will be a great day."
