Thirty Something

Hey, nothing has made me feel more grown up than my post college years- paying bills, marriage, graduate school, having to take better care of my health (eat right and exercise), holding down a steady career, owning my own home, etc. Nothing aged me more than being called Mr. for the first time. I should have been better prepared for all this; after all I watched episodes of Thirtysomething growing up.

Feeling more adult has less to do with how many times the earth has revolved around the sun, than it does the added responsibilities I’ve adopted. To be honest, I never realized how young thirty feels. Seriously. I’m looking forward to what the next decade has to bring.

I’m now entering the most competitive age bracket for running: males, 30 – 39. Looks like I’ll have to train ever harder. Maybe I’ll try a few more half-marathons, or bring my 5K time below 21 minutes. Kids on the way? Maybe. I’ll finish my MA program this year. Could an educational doctorate be my next step? Who knows. I could have hardly guesses what I would have accomplished in my career five years ago (NWP, Key Issues in CO, becoming the L.A. facilitator, coaching).

Who knows what the next ten years will bring, much less the next five. I’m looking forward to the next decade. Well, 30, here I come- today is my birthday.
